Discord
Have the Nabbed bot post your household's notifications to a Discord channel, and link your Discord account for mentions and supporter roles.
The Nabbed bot can post your household's notifications to a channel in your Discord server: what's ready to watch, what stalled, and agent problems. Everyone who can see the channel sees the posts, and the bot can mention whoever asked for a film or episode.
A Discord channel is a household channel. Owners and admins add it and choose what's posted, and the whole household shares it.
Before you start
- Your household is on Pro.
- You're the household's owner or an admin.
- You have Manage Server in the Discord server. Discord only lets people with that permission add a bot.
Add the bot to a server
Start in Nabbed
Go to Settings → Notifications → Household channels, choose Add Discord channel, then Continue to Discord.
If the bot is already in one of your servers, Nabbed lists them first. Choose Pick a channel next to one to skip Discord, or Add the bot to another server.
Approve the bot on Discord
Pick the server and approve. The bot asks for three permissions, the least it needs to post:
| Permission | Why the bot needs it |
|---|---|
| View Channel | To see the channel it posts in. |
| Send Messages | To post notifications. |
| Embed Links | To show each notification as a card with a poster and a link to Nabbed. |
Finish within 10 minutes, in the same browser tab.
Pick a channel
Back in Nabbed, pick the channel the bot should post in. Text and announcement channels are listed. A channel the bot can't post in is locked and says which permission is missing: see Fix a locked channel.
Leave Mention the requester on to ping whoever asked for a film or episode, then choose Add channel.
Check the test post
Nabbed posts a test message in the channel straight away. When it arrives, the channel is Active.
To post to another channel, choose Add Discord channel again. Each channel has its own settings.
Fix a locked channel
A channel is locked when the bot's role isn't allowed to view it, send messages or embed links there. In Discord, open the channel's settings → Permissions, add the Nabbed role and allow View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links. Then choose Refresh in Nabbed.
What a post looks like
Each notification is a card with:
- the title, linking to the film, series or setting in Nabbed
- a colour for its severity
- the film's or series' poster, when there is one
- an Open in Nabbed button
Episodes are held for a minute before they're posted, so a season pack is one post, such as "8 new episodes of Slow Horses are ready", not eight.
Choose what's posted
Each channel has a card under Household channels with:
- Post here: switches every post to this channel off or on.
- Mention the requester: see Mention the requester.
- Minimum severity: the quietest notifications that are posted. The options are the same as for email.
- Events: a switch for each event, under a count such as "Events: 10 of 11 posted".
A household channel gets one post for each event that's switched on for it, whoever the notification is for. By default every event is posted except Release grabbed:
| Category | Posted by default |
|---|---|
| Downloads | Download stalled, Import failed. Not Release grabbed. |
| Library | Ready to watch |
| Agents | Agent offline, Agent back online, Download source unavailable, Download source recovered, Agent notice, Agent notice resolved |
| Household | Member joined |
Billing events are never posted to a household channel: they stay between the owner and Nabbed.
Members who aren't owners or admins can see each channel and how many events it posts, but can't change anything.
Mention the requester
With Mention the requester on, a post about a film or episode pings the member who asked for it, as long as they're still in the household and have linked their Discord account. Otherwise the post goes out without a mention.
Only that member can be pinged. Nothing else in a post, such as a release name
containing @everyone, notifies anyone.
Remove a channel or the bot
To stop posting to a channel, choose the bin icon on its card, then Remove. Its event choices and delivery log go too. Messages already in Discord stay.
If it's the household's last channel in that server, Also remove the Nabbed bot from the server is ticked. Untick it to keep the bot there, so you can pick another channel later without going through Discord again.
A server that has the bot but no channels is listed in the Add Discord channel dialog with a Disconnect button, which removes the bot from it.
If someone removes the bot in Discord, or deletes the channel, Nabbed turns the channel off at its next post and tells the owner and admins. See Discord permission problems.
Link your Discord account
Linking your Discord account to Nabbed lets household channels mention you, and gives you supporter roles in the Nabbed Discord server.
- Go to Settings → Profile & preferences. Under Connected accounts, choose Connect next to Discord.
- Approve Nabbed on Discord.
- Back in Nabbed, Connected accounts shows the Discord account you're linked as.
A Discord account can be linked to one Nabbed account. Only you can see your connected accounts.
To unlink, choose Unlink. Nabbed forgets the account and tells Discord you no longer qualify for supporter roles. If Discord stops accepting Nabbed's access, for example because you removed the app in Discord, the row shows Reconnect.
Supporter roles
The Nabbed Discord server has two linked roles:
| Role | Who qualifies |
|---|---|
| @Pro | Every member of a Pro or Lifetime household, not only the owner |
| @Lifetime | Every member of a Lifetime household |
Discord doesn't hand out linked roles by itself, so claim yours once: in the Nabbed Discord server, open the server name → Linked Roles and pick the role. You can also start there before you've linked your account: Discord sends you to Nabbed to sign in and approve, then tells you to go back to Discord.
Connected accounts shows the roles you qualify for and when Nabbed last updated Discord. Nabbed updates Discord whenever your household's plan changes, so your roles follow the plan.
